The last decade has seen many women friendly laws enacted,
strengthening the efforts of women groups who have been relentlessly working
towards women empowerment with justice and dignity.
Despite the numerous legal mechanisms in place, such as PWDV
Act, PCPNDT Act, PCM Act etc., there is a steep increase in crime against women
across the country. There is an urgent need for civil society and government
departments to collectively take steps for ensuring effective implementation of
these laws, so they could be made accessible to women.
Keeping this in mind, WomenPowerConnect (WPC), with the
support of National Commission for Women (NCW), organized five regional level
workshops in Udaipur , Rajasthan, Bhubaneswar ,
Chennai, Guwahati and Chandigarh to
reflect on the experiences in different states and to deliberate upon the
interventions.
As a culmination of all the regional level meetings held in
five regions, WPC –NCW are organizing National level Consultation on 12th July, 2012 at India Habitat
Centre, Gulmohar Conference hall, Lodhi Road ,
New Delhi
